We can't do Guitar Hero theme(Sunshine of your love is featured on GH3) without the master himself Mr. Eric Clapton. I had the honor of seeing in concert around this era his career in the late 80's and early 90's. I was simply awestruck and to see him in video doesn't do him justice. If haven't seen him live your missing something special. This video features Phil Collins on drums and Nathan East on Bass.

Of course Stevie Ray Vaughn is featured on Guitar hero 3 with this song. I was just starting to enjoy him before he was killed in a helicopter crash in 1990. An amazing guitarist to watch and listen to.

I always thought this tune was pretty cool. A good way to let off some frustration. Though they might be considered a boy band of the era they were I believe a little more talented than many of them.

What can be said about Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin that hasn't been said already? In the 80's Zeppelin was still a rock radio staple(and still is). Though Zeppelin was gone we still heard from them occasionally. This is a nice one Mr. Robert Plant.

Nothing is more 80's than perhaps The Go-Go's. An all girl group with an infectious beat. Although they were squeaky clean they had a rock based pop sound that I could appreciate. Plus I have a thing for guitarist Jane Weidlin.

I thought this was an appropriate day for this song. Of course Bob Geldof was an early figure in music. He was not only singer for Boomtown Rats. He also also played "Pink" in Pink Floyd's The Wall movie. He also helped organize 1985's Live Aid concert. He was a busy guy in the 80's.

I want my MTV" became the catch phrase during the early 80's. We saw the birth of MTV before it became a hip-hop,rap, and reality show station. They actually showed music videos around the clock. What a concept I know. Sorry for the rant. Enjoy the video.

Who could forget these guys during the 80's. Hot rods, beautiful women, sunglasses and rock and roll. Definition of cool back in the day. I actually saw these guys live back in 87 in Frankfurt, Germany(then West Germany) while I was in the Army. Awesome show.

Pink Floyd - Another brick in the wall part 2

I thought this was pretty cool when it came out. I actually didn't see it until a few years later. It was quite an experience and I rarely tire of it. I noticed though I played it a lot when I was depressed or drunk(sometimes both). Another brick in the wall part 2 was probably the most popular song from the album and movie.

This was one sequel (Terminator 2)that lived up to the first if not passing it. It coincided with the much anticipated follow up album to Appetite for Destruction called Use your illusion by Guns 'n' Roses. Both the song and movie kicked you know what.

Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone

I'm going to keep with the movie soundtrack theme for this week. In the 80's it seemed as if every other movie had a song by Kenny Loggins including Footloose, Caddyshack and of course this one from Top Gun. The movie included Tom Cruise before he went off the deep end. I was in the army when this came out so the military theme fit. Of course like many movies they ruined it with a love story but what the heck it's part of life. Enjoy the video!

First at bat is the hit song Don't You(Forget about me) from Simple Minds which is included on The Breakfast Club soundtrack. I know when this came out it was(and still is) immensely popular with those of Generation X.I think the catch to the movie was that many of us could identify with the characters involved. The song kind of spoke of what many of us were feeling at the time in our lives growing up. I still love the song and movie and I hope you enjoy it too.

Welcome to GenXRock! Generation X is loosely defined as those born between 1965-1977. As far as rock music is concerned we grew up in the shadow of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin etc. Being born in 1966 I was listening to stuff on the radio from the 1970' and onward. Being a teen and young adult in the 1980's means that the music during that decade heavily influenced my life at the time as it does with most teenage generations. I enjoy rock music from the 1950's to present day focusing on Rock and some Pop music too. What I hope to do hear is share my interest in rock music from the 1980's -1990's. I sometimes feel that music from this generation was overshadowed by the previous generation. The baby boomers just ahead of us had Elvis, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin among others. That's a tough act to follow. It's my goal to highlight rock music from our generation. I hope you'll enjoy this blog and come back soon.
